What is a Citizens' Panel?
A citizens’ panel is a group of local people who agree to take part in specific engagement activities and consultations. The idea is to hear from as broad a range of people as possible so that the council can make decisions that benefit everyone, not just those with the loudest voices. For this reason, the council selects the members to ensure the panel is representative of the area’s population.
The Arlen Hill citizens’ panel is made up of about 1500 members. They take part in roughly three online surveys and one in-person forum per year. If you’re interested in being a part of it, you can register below. We’re particularly keen to hear from young people from all demographics, so if you’re aged 16-30 we’d love to have you on board.
Your impact
Here are some decisions we’ve made based on your feedback
Arlen Hill leisure centre
We asked: would you support reducing the leisure centre’s opening hours to save on costs?
You said: yes, but the leisure centre is important to people with disabilities, who tend to use it in the mornings.
We changed the opening hours from 07:00 - 16:00 to 07:00 - 14:00.
Making Arlen Hill safer
We asked: do you feel safe in the borough, and how can we improve safety overall?
You said: 70% feel safe in general, but that you’d like better street lighting and more community outreach in deprived areas.
We’re installing more lights, and sending out more community liaison workers to the areas where you feel most unsafe.
Food waste collections
We asked: many people don’t recycle their food waste correctly. What can we do to improve the service?
You said: lots of people said it was unclear what type of food waste can go in the bin.
All new food bins will now have what goes in them printed on the sides. We’re also sending out informative flyers to residents’ homes.
